Rich Webb Prepares to Release Genre-Defining Album of Australicana – ‘Le Rayon Vert’

Its a rare thing indeed that an aural appreciation for a moment in time captures the romanticism of a state of mind so well. Leading track ‘Let it Rain’ of forthcoming Americana release for Rich Webb, which was recorded in France, takes on much in the way of its native surrounding. The album’s title ‘Le Rayon Vert’, is taken from a concept from Jules Verne’s novel of the same name which transcribes meaning behind ‘The Green Ray’, a naturally occurring phenomenon that occurs as the last rays of sunlight flash upon the horizon – said in this case to grant heightened perception to those who view it as a kind of conductor of true feeling.

The concept behind the band’s fourth release was derived from the 1986 Éric Rohmer film (released as ‘Summer’) in which a beautiful young Parisian girl frantically searches to appease her restless soul. This very much comes across in themes which explore openness, discovery and peer into dark, disquieted areas of a fractured mind. As soon as the track fires up, you can feel momentum gather as the wheels start turning. As the stop start chops of the medley take root, suddenly the swelling surge of a convoy comes into clear view.

As if lifted straight from a soundtrack, it carries it’s almost cinematic quality along for the ride. The overall essence is one of grounded desert county garage-rock, proudly proclaiming a certain swagger but with an understated tenderness that parallels the love story it’s loosely based upon. While working alongside acclaimed sound recordist Howard Bargoff – known for his BAFTA winning and Emmy-nominated work on TV and film – the exotic and rich level of live experience they have under their below has been brought to the fore in the energy and punch that the single forces home.

The overall feeling panders towards something in terms of an elegant charge, invigorating the rain soaked masses into movement as the crowds bustle and swell. Its journey saturates belief as it all comes together in a kind of circular completion, a taste of risen dust on the lips heightening a togetherness and yearning to wash away social division.

Don’t let yourself get caught behind the wheel supping your sandblasted lager-drink.

Oceans of Noise but Go Easy on the Booze!

Launching their first campaign outside of their native Turkey, Oceans of Noise are the kind of rock band it’s easy to get along with. Despite having an outrageous amount of success in their home country, Eurovision Song Contest victories and a loyal fan-base, rock fans should have no concerns about language barriers or unusual stylings – this is epic, landscape, quadruple-gatefold scale symphonic rock, with arresting imagery, oodles of musical skill and synths and guitars working in tandem to scramble your brains before you’ve even got to the bar.

Talking of the bar, Oceans of Noise are holding a launch party for their self-titled EP at London’s ultra-fashionable, Omeara Bar under London Bridge. Should you be lucky enough to get an invite, do the right thing and ask the barkeep for a couple of shots of Turkey’s national drink, raki to toast the band and yourself for having such good taste. Tempting as it may be, we wouldn’t recommend oceans, seas or even lakes of the stuff, though we’re fairly certain you’ll find the music intoxicating enough.

Anarchy Reigns Call the Shots!

If there’s one thing the Brits are good at it’s complaining and making loud music, and who better to prove this point than heavy rock outfit, Anarchy Reigns. Led by the already iconic Hitch, the band have already got an army of fans before they even released a note of music – their social media campaign which throws down the gauntlet for followers to takes photos of minor examples of anarchy (walking near “don’t walk on the grass” signs and the like) has garnered thousands of followers and zillions of shares. Now embarking on stage two of their bid to conquer the world, they release the video to Liars, Liars, a no-nonsense (or possibly all-nonsense) diatribe against politicians. Not specific politicians but the whole lot of em. In for a penny!

Though with an element of humour which has long enjoyed a tradition in British rock music, the musicianship is top drawer with proper, honest to God riffs and drum pummeling. With a call to arms which is already selling merchandise to their army of fans (hand grenade stress-relievers, anyone?), another single and an album are just around the corner. Join up or look daft.

So, what brew to select to go along with your Anarchy Reigns listening experience? Well, we were sorely tempted to go for copious pints of Trooper, in honour of the mighty Maiden, but it would surely be wrong not to swig back some JD whilst flicking the horns?

In Review: Albino’s ‘Belinda’

It’s at times like these you realise how forgiving you’ve been of singles which have come through for review. Why did I find it acceptable that a 6 minute track which had no discernible melody, rhythm, focus or point of interest was worthy of a carefully thought out appraisal? Albino have nailed exactly what a single should be: their new track ‘Belinda’ is catchy, fresh, yet at the same time redolent of some classic bands you’d forgotten you were madly in love with; but at the same time leaving you clawing at your ears that it only lasts for 2 and a bit minutes.

There’s the well told story from Paul McCartney about the creation of ‘Yesterday’ wherby having written down the song, he convinced himself for the following month that all he had in fact done was to plagiarise an already existing wunder-hit. I almost have the same feeling here: ‘Belinda’ sounds naggingly familiar, yet having listened to it a few more times, I’m confident it is a completely original modern classic.

Yes, there are obvious reference points- the kaleidoscopically drooling organ sound is immediately all things The Doors/The Animals/Brian Auger; the structure is the gutter-garage-blues of The Beasts of Bourbon and early Nick Cave. Although Albino are London based, more specifically, London pub-based, their beer mat agenda is being fully understood by both band and audience alike. This as much tomorrow’s sound as yesterday’s – the hangover comes for free.

What Drink?

Considering the band’s claim that they more or less run on whiskey, it’s got to be a fine single malt. Or simply anything alcoholic…

Electrifying self-titled debut album from Belfast rock band, The Irontown Diehards

Belfast band, The Irontown Diehards, deliver this self-titled debut album, a hi-octane rock riff-fest set for release on May 27th.

Citing Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry and Bon Jovi as influences, The Irontown Diehards are a band that hard rock enthusiasts worldwide need in their iTunes libraries. Making up their sound are belting vocal hooks, speeding rhythms and headbanging riffs that’ll leave your neck toned.

As described by Belfast Metalheads Reunited: ‘they have combined the essential elements to forge a fierce rock sound that is delivered as if they wield a battleaxe’.

A formidable live act, the band match their lively sound with a distinctive image, dressing unconventionally in Victorian worker garb as if they just so happened to stumble out of a time machine into the 21st Century and discover electric guitars. All the members have previously played in top Northern Ireland rock and metal bands including Last Known Addiction, Almighty Fallen, Stormzone, Warcrux and Dead Zebra. Their collective musical experience shows, both in their musicianship and their performance.

‘Fly High’ is the lead single, a soaring ballad with an explosive chorus. It features a cracking guitar solo and culminates into a mighty and epic crescendo.

‘’…there is no doubt that they are bringing something new and interesting to a Northern Ireland scene in which it can sometimes be difficult to find’’ write Planet Mosh.

The album will be available for pre-order shortly, ready for its release on May 27th.

Mechanical Man could be Russia’s answer to Metallica

Booze? Jack Daniels.

Quoted by webzine Prog Sphere as an album that “is comprised of everything an album must include, and that is energy, powerful performance, melody, [and] well-thought songwriting” Mechanical Man’s eight track release moves between the spheres of traditional heavy metal aggression and melodic experimentalism as epitomised by the eponymous opening track ‘Mechanical Man’:

Since their formation in 2012 the band consisting of Alex Zefiridis (vocals), Serj Danilov (guitars), Alexander Lee (bass), Vitaly Ostrov (drums) and Eugeny Komarov (keyboards) have made a name for themselves among some well known musicians in the metal scene. The professionalism of their music has been acknowledged by some of their main influences such as Elias Viljanen of Sonata Arctica, a band who they supported, as well as Peter Hallaraker of Leprous who they played alongside with at Metropolis Fest in Minsk, Belarus, earlier this year. The single ‘Madhouse’ which was released in June 2014 was produced by none other than producer Hiili Hiilesmaa who is known to have worked with bands like HIM, Lordi, Apocalyptica, Moonspell or Amorphis in the past. Click here to have a listen:

band

The music is underpinned by Alex’ emotionally strong and at the same time heavily muscular vocals. Adding the warmer sounds of Eugeny’s keyboard riffs to the overall energetic masculinity of their sound has earned the band compliments across a range of reviews. One of the leading  underground rock websites, The Moshville Times, has praised the record as one of the most exciting upcoming albums which is marked by a maturity that suggests that the band has been around for a lot longer than only three years.

Mechanical Man has started out as a project brought to life by guitarist Serj who has moved across the country from the Eastern outskirts of Russia to Moscow writing both the lyrics and musical arrangements for each instrument. Taking inspiration from artists such as Muse, Rush or Dream Theater is making a clear statement in the industry by showing that a Russian metal band can easily be up there with heavy, earthy rock music that’s coming out of Scandinavia and other countries.

The album ‘Mechanical Man’ will be out on 30th January 2016.

Yo ready to make you ‘Shake It’ With New Single!

Post-punk indie single set to hit on June 15th

Booze? Rum!

Currently based in New Orleans – the birthplace of soul and jazz – Yo are a rock band not afraid to go against the grain. After travelling the globe and making homes in various areas of the USA and Europe, the music and song writing draws upon a wealth of inspirations and tales from the road.

shakeit_RGB_HQ

The latest single taken from the album will be the rough hitting, punk laced track ‘Shake It’ – dripping in punchy bass-lines, quasi-spoken vocals and a distinctly trippy sensibility.

‘Shake It’ as a track represents just one of the many facets and styles that make Yo such an interesting band. Each track is specifically influenced by the place, time and events of its conception, so pinning down a genre is something of a challenge.

You can hear the track here:

Watch the video here:

The single is taken from the album ‘Vagrancy’, an LP which demonstrates perfectly the versatile nature of Yo’s song writing. Songs such as ‘Shake It’ are seemingly built for the high energy of live performance, but other tracks on the album suit different environments. Whether chilling out at a festival, going for it on a club dance floor, jumping around at a live gig or relaxing in a local pub, there will be a song on this album which fits perfectly to every situation.

Altogether, it makes for a heady cocktail which is tough to pigeonhole, sewn together by the originality of vocalist Andre’s delivery.

Single ‘Shake It’ will be available from June 15th.

Kinky Dove rock out with new self-titled EP

3 track release set to be unleashed on June 15th

scott_2

Born in Australia but now living in London, Kinky Dove is the musical moniker of frontman Scott Wade and his evolving collective of musicians. Progenitors of gritty, driving rock, the group are readying themselves for a fresh assault on the music industry with a brand new three track EP.

Their particular brand of rock and roll, defined in many ways by the bluesy, post-rock growl of Wade on vocals, is currently in short supply both nationally and globally, and Kinky Dove are now looking to redress that balance.

For a taste of their punchy style, check out the video to EP track ‘Some Kind of Fool’, featuring an epic slap-happy montage of Hollywood moments.

The EP also features a remix/cover version of classic 1978 track ‘Another Girl Another Planet’ by The Only Ones – in this case titled simply ‘Another Girl’.

There is also a trance remix of ‘It’s Called Heartache’ on the EP. You can find the video for this at

The EP is online at

Produced by Chris Kimsey, previously of Olympic Studios, the EP marks Kinky Dove out as one of the earthiest rock bands on the scene. Fans of Scott Wade and Kinky Dove before they began working together, the producer understood the style and heights at which the music was aiming, and helped mould that vision into the musical reality that Kinky Dove has become.

The CD was mixed by Wade. Studio legend Phill Brown loved the sound of the CD, commenting that the mixes were “open and alive.”

The resulting EP is a continuation of form from previous album ‘Kinky Dove vol. 1’, and the latest step in Kinky Dove’s climb.

Wings of Pegasus – ‘That’s Metal (To My Ears)’

Wings of Pegasus

Booze? Carlsberg special brew

Hard rock with an 80s twist inspired by the likes of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Dokken and more, Wings of Pegasus are a rock band with a big sound and a fresh approach to the music industry. With new single ‘That’s Metal (To My Ears)’ due in May, the band are running a campaign called ‘Make Chart History’, aiming to take the independent release to the very top of the charts, all the while donating the proceeds to Cancer Research UK.

Hoping to whip up a groundswell of support, songwriter Fil Henley is working hard to spread the word on the campaign as well as the single itself – an independently produced homage to old 80’s bands with big hair and screeching guitar solos. Designed to encourage listeners to dust off the air guitar, it’s great fun and the most light hearted track on the ‘Persistence’ album, which is out now.

Witchingseason – ‘The Healer’

Booze? Something strong. Maybe Hennessey.

Based in the UK, Witchingseason are a dark alt-rock band who can write music that makes an impression. Not for the faint of heart, their music is a cacophony of riotous drums, heavy guitar riffs and coarse, melodic vocals that are tailor made for rock audiences to shout right back at the band.

Their new single, ‘The Healer’, is the type of rock song that has to be played loud. After releasing their last EP in November, not only are Witchingseason good at what they do but it is clear they’re also hard workers with a real passion for music. Having received praise from, Metal Temple, TeamRock.com and Soundscape magazine, Witchingseason are set to make a big impact on the rock industry.

After playing a huge live show at London’s prestigious 100 club, Witchingseason are set to play a gig at, the Camden Barfly, a renowned rock venue, on July 10th. And more event dates are to follow after the group complete work on the summer album they have planned. These gigs are not to be missed: Witchingseason’s fierce and meaty sound makes for an intense live show.
