Humor releases TLC from his latest EP

pic2Describing his hip hop heroes include the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J Cole, also taking inspiration from grime greats like Kano, Ghetts and Skepta. Starting out freestyling with friends, he has since developed his own formidable style merging speedy flows and vivid lyricism.

His new self-produced EP is a hi-octane thrill ride that blurs elements of hip hop, grime and electronica. ‘TLC’ is the lead single, which sees Humor spitting energetically over a murky backdrop of squelchy synths and punchy 808s.

This track is the kind of track, you would hear at a grime rave with a bottle of Grey Goose or Wray and Nephews…

Prince William has his sights on the hip hop throne with new single ‘Million Ways’

Having performed at last year’s SXSW festival, Houston rapper Prince William is an exciting new hip hop underdog on the rise.

His latest single ‘Million Ways’ sees him showing off his adept flow and wordplay skills. It centres lyrically around pushing one’s talents in order to be successful.

Stream the single here on Soundcloud:

Written over a year ago, the rapper explains the inspiration behind it: ‘I was working the graveyard shift at a gas station one night (Winter ’14) and decided to play the instrumental on the loud speaker since I was the only one there. I mustve played the instrumental 100 times that night and then as I was mopping the floor, the flow and the hook just naturally hit me and I recorded it on my next off day.’

Prince William’s inspiring self-confidence and rhymes are likely to appeal to fans of artists like Jay-Z, Childish Gambino and J Cole.

A highly self-motivated artist, Prince William has started a music career through his own determination and grit, setting up his very own record label Lavish Living Ent.

He explains the source of his drive: ‘When I decided to start making music, I called lots of old friends from Elementary all the way to High school and they all (exaggerated with “all” but pretty damn close) dismissed me and that helped me develop my “self-inspiring” attitude and I also learned to depend on myself much more than the average person.’

Prince William has always seen himself as an underdog. Upon entering a contest for indie rappers in 2013 led by local hip hop legend OG Ron C, the rap icon came up on stage and said “I don’t wanna hear music about your problems, if I wanted to hear about problems I would’ve stayed home and looked at bills. This is not the rap game, I want to see girls shake their asses and music I can dance to.”

Knowing from the start that he was different to the other rappers in the competition and that this statement was subliminally aimed at him, Prince William didn’t let it get in the way of his vision, having since proved OG wrong by performing at SXSW and scoring radio airplay from Kiss FM phoenix and an interview with KTSU Houston.

He hopes to continue onwards and upwards continuing to push his own record label and garner a worldwide fanbase.

AMBIENT-EXPERIMENTAL-POP: GRAWL!X SHARES NEW TRACK ‘PANDO’ AND ANNOUNCES BRAND NEW ALBUM AYE!

Feat. Haiku Salut

For this track I would suggest a nice fruity cider (preferably cold with a summer breeze and the heat of a BBQ)

The brainchild and alter-ego of James Machin, Derbyshire-based Grawl!x has announced the forthcoming release of his brand new album, Aye! (out May 28th) and shared mesmerising new single, ‘Pando’. ‘Pando is an explosion of sun-drenched colour – with layered guitars, jumping pop beats and yearning vocals, the track was written as an ode to an elusive person that Machin had not heard from in a long time.

Recorded over months of disjointed sessions in various bedrooms and spaces, and featuring vocals and instrumentation by Haiku Salut, Grawl!x’s hypnotic experimental dream-pop album recalls Dan Deacon and Animal Collective at their finest.

Truly captivating; swells of psychedelic guitars accompany layers of distant voices, and hazy, hypnotic drums – stylistically reminiscent of Panda Bear and, in parts, Alt-J. The album theme was derived from a concept taken from the Kubler-Ross model of the five stages of dealing with grief, with Aye! (the third album in a trilogy) exploring the final stage – acceptance.

Aye! was written over the course of a number of months in an almost abandoned church on a hill in the Derbyshire countryside. Machin would walk to the church in all weathers, never encountering another soul there. Machin explains: “Inside that rather foreboding structure is an old upright piano, displaying a laminated sheet of paper with the words ‘This Piano was Meant to be Played’. So he did, regularly.

This inspired the concept of an entire church tour – with a full band, Grawl!x played numerous tour dates in some of the UK’s most beautiful churches, bringing audiences Machin’s melodic creations as they were originally intended.

grawlix_cover_hi_res_web (1)

The record’s lyrical themes centre around an unfortunate incident involving a mysterious ‘friend’ of the ex-My Psychoanalyst singer and guitarist. Speaking about these themes, Machin said: “Whereas my response to that would have been to mope around, his was to say ‘YES’ to whatever came his way. An affirmative attitude, that I admired.”

Hence whilst reflections on such dark subjects might in other hands have produced something grim and mawkish, out of grief Machin has wrought songs of beauty and wonder. The multi-instrumentalist played and recorded all of the instruments on Aye!, keen to create an album of two parts – a dream-pop A side and a slicker, electronic B side. Experimental soundscape ‘Compliance’ serves to mark this divide, and signpost a turning point in the album. This is a record about coping with the aftermath of grief – and how life goes on. It’s there in the haunting ‘Destination’ and the cyclical ‘Circadian Riddim’, laden as they are with drum machines and spacey synths.

Final track ‘Gumption’ features instrumentation by acclaimed Derbyshire band Haiku Salut woven around Machin’s carefully constructed soundscapes, these are compositions that tastefully blend acoustic and electronic elements that grow deeper with each listen.

The music James Machin makes as Grawl!x (pronounced ‘Grawlix’- a term used in comic book circles to refer to the ampersands and hash-tags used when a character is using profane language) is gentle and spacious, but with a deep well of feeling that often rises up out of nowhere to take over. This can be joyous, riveting, sometimes even terrifying.

Aye! starts out with simple piano and a string quartet arrangement, a gentle opening that acts as a sort of ‘reset’ button on your world, readying you for the 9 tracks that follow.

Machin will be touring with Grawl!x – full band – in June. Details to follow.

Shannon K – ‘Lose Control’

Booze?

Alcopops!

Composed by Matt Knight and Andy Whitmore, with lyrics from the excellent Rosie Penn, the single is a feel-good treat, capturing the spirit and freedom of the upcoming summer months. It’s the first time Shannon has released a single with such pure, summer vibes, and the infectious melodies and great production very much get you in the mood for the sunshine.

The quality of her songs, which was there from the very beginning, only improves with each single release. It should come as no surprise to learn that she grew up with a parent who knows what it takes to make it in the music industry.

Capture

A glittering career as a vocalist in Bollywood has seen her father Kumar Sanu win a total of 69 awards including 64 in his native India (from Filmfare, Zee Cine, Kishore Kumarand more) plus 5 internationally (from Sunrise Radio-London, West Indian Academy, Grammy-West Indies, Bollywood Music-U.S.A. and Radio Lotus-South Africa).

But now, thanks to her developing mainstream sound and with many years ahead of her, Shannon K has every chance of eclipsing all those accolades – and with more top pop singles on the way, we wouldn’t bet against her.

This pop starlet ready to release her newest single ‘Cruel Love’

Scarlet small

Booze!? Tequila!

A huge fan, Head of Absolute Radio James Curran had this to say following a recent blockbusting performance at Hard Rock Rising in London:

“By far the best female vocal we have seen in this competition!”

BBC Introducing Oxford have debuted Cruel Love already with DJ Dave Gilyeat saying “this track should be in the charts”! Add to that Kat Orman of BBC Oxford labelling her ‘One To Watch’ in 2015 and the stars are aligning for Scarlet Baxter.

Single ‘Cruel Love’, released on July 20th, will no doubt continue to win over fans with its superb production values and slick pop sound:

“Scarlet has no fear and has clear goals to make 2015 her year” – Mark Boardman (Music Journalist).

Described by Cigarette Sounds as “the next woman of pop”, Scarlet Baxter’s rise has been meteoric. Working consistently in a tight knit team with talented guitarist Dominic Ireland and co-writers, John McLaughlin, Judd Mahoney & Natalie DeLucia, Scarlet has derived an entire catalogue of original material in only a year. Cherry White set to precede new EP ‘Staring at the Sun’ with stylish single ‘Drifter’

Booze?

Cider!

The EP is led out of the gate by single ‘Drifter’, which will be released on June 1st, one week prior to the full EP.

Currently building a buzz with their live shows in and around London, Cherry White have now taken to the studio to record a brand new EP, ‘Staring at the Sun’. Inspired by life in London during this austerity era, surrounded by the greed of the wealthy, the tracks circle around an aspiration to reach higher and achieve their goals in the music industry and beyond.

Folding the old school songwriting smarts of Fleetwood Mac into the contemporary edge of the Raconteurs, London based four piece Cherry White are an immediately impressive proposition. Their in your face indie-blues sound is highlighted by great hooks and high energy, blending genres in a way that sets them apart from more pigeonholed bands.

Engineered at Bark Studios by the excellent Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream, The Firm, My Bloody Valentine), the EP does a fantastic job of capturing the frenetic energy of a band who thrive on a live environment.

And with the single and EP on the way, Cherry White will be working harder than ever to make sure that reputation continues to grow into the music career they deserve.

Former Deptford market traders set to make Jason Statham pop sensation.

Shirt-White 03logo

BOOZE!?

BEERS!

The next step is to make sure Jason knows about the release and this is the challenge with his new movie ‘SPY’ on the horizon , it is now down to the Men with Ven to do all they can to set up a meeting with the movie icon, they have numerous plans in the pipeline from flashmobs to lookalikes but all the guys really want is the thumbs up from the man himself, they have therefore put together a tribute video with which they intend to reach out and attract his attention and from there who knows ! maybe even get him to appear in the real video and truly help Mr.Statham to hit the pop charts and the movie box office charts at the same time.

Check out the video:

‘A few weeks ago we found ourselves back in the neighbourhood at the Birds Nest. After a couple of beers Carl had the bright idea of conducting an informal survey in the pub asking, who was the greatest British Actor of the last 50 years? We were pleased and surprised that the most popular choice that evening was the king of market-stall and marshall arts – Jason Statham. Carl was intrigued but not completely convinced that this was a fair representation of the voice of the people and so conducted some further research in the area. In all, after getting over 350 responses, he found that Statham was more popular than Michael Caine , Sean Connery and Sir Laurence Olivier put together.’
